Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Warriors Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, demons, and dark forces expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Revealing details for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of heroes who will separate from the main group to undertake their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team features Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

First, the team understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose death started the story’s plot—used the foes for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.

The traitor then cleared his debts and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each member has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the group enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The target is marked for death by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to head to Timmony in quest for the antagonist.

What’s Next?

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight players to round up the Seekers and Strategists groups.

Fans can anticipate finding out which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
