The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
